⌈ CHARACTER SECTION ⌉

Character: Clarus Amicitia
Age: 55
Canon: Final Fantasy XV
Canon Point: Right as him and Regis get ready to fight Glauca (knowing they will die)

Background: Wikia

Personality:

Clarus is, first of, incredibly loyal. To his king, to his kingdom and to his people. He was literally raised from birth to protect his king, since Amicitia have always served as Shields of their kings. As such he’s completely aware that he may have to put his life on the line to protect Regis, and he’ll do so gladly. He doesn’t ever resent Regis for it or regrets his position, especially now that they have spent most of their life protecting each other- Regis is not just his charge anymore, he’s his friend.

Clarus is a very determined man, always striving for the best, both for himself and for everyone else. That means that sometimes he comes across as intimidating and slightly more strict than what he really is, and he’s got quite a reputation as, frankly, a hardass especially around the new recruits in the crownsguard. But those who really got to know him, like his family and his friends, know he actually hides a gentle side and a very dorky sense of humor. He’s very demanding, yes, but only because he wants everyone to push at their own limits and do their best. He will never ask anyone to do more than what they can actually do, but he’ll also not allow slacking off when he knows someone can do better.

It’s actually quite hard to get to know Clarus. He’s generally nice to most people and he’s definitely not unfriendly when talking to people, but he’s so focused on his role and his training that he doesn’t really like making small talk and just generally doesn’t allow himself much down time, which doesn’t make it easy to get to meet new people. This was true when he was young, but it’s gotten worse as time passed and Regis gained more and more responsibilities as he went from crown prince to king, with Clarus by his side as his trusted shield.

It’s not that he completely distrust people by default, and he’s never going to be rude to someone unless they give him a reason to. But he is heavily involved in making sure the citadel and the royal family are safe, and part of that includes learning how to read people and not trusting them right away- and that has bleed some into his demeanor even when he’s not working (spoilers: he’s always working). This means that sometimes he can come across as standoffish, cold or even rude when meeting someone, but if anyone puts the time to get to know him and manage to bring his walls down they’ll get to know the warm, caring person he really is in the inside.

He’s part of the King’s council, which means that it’s his duty to attend (far too many) meetings of all kinds and give his opinion, do his best to protect Insomnia and its people and aid Regis in all the crisis the kingdom goes through as they do their best to survive facing off the Niflheim empire. His daughter Iris mentions having to come to the citadel and bring him a change of clothes because he’s literally had no time to get back home in days- he takes his job and duty seriously and he won’t allow himself to give less than a 100% for it.

Clarus is also a family man, even though his job doesn’t allow himself much time to spend with his family. Still, it’s very clear he loves them dearly and he asks for updates on them as often as he can. Gladio’s an adult now and Iris isn’t a little girl anymore, and Clarus is filled with pride at everything they’ve accomplished. The game sadly didn’t have time to focus on the Amicitia siblings mourning for their father once he died, but the conversations Gladio has with Cor afterwards makes it clear Gladio loved his father a lot and strived to be like him as a shield, and that Clarus was extremely proud of him.

At his canon point, Clarus is literally about to die and he’s aware of it. Regis gives the option to leave, this is not his battle and he shouldn’t die fighting for it. But Clarus refuses. He’s not abandoning his king, and leaving him behind would ensure the city’s fall anyway. So he’s made peace with dying, and all he was focused on was to make sure that if he was going to die he would die giving their enemies a hell of a fight.

Abilities: Clarus has been trained literally all his life to be able to defend the Lucius Caelum family. He’s a skilled fighter who seems to favour his greatsword, which he can summon thanks to the crystal’s magic alongside with his shield. He seems to be really strong and capable of powerful attacks as seen in a king’s tale.

Even at his old age he’s kept in shape, as he’s still the king’s shield and part of his council and he needs to be able to defend him… but he does mention it’s been awhile since he and Regis had actually fought side to side.

Alignment: Piphron - Trust is a big thing for him. He’s always slightly suspicious of new people he meets, it kinda comes with his job description especially if they are going to be close to the Royal Family. But once they gain his trust, he trusts completely and wholeheartedly.
